Remuneration Table: description of N, C, and Date.
The sample size is given by N. This is the number of separate incumbents
whose salary details have been used to produce the analysis provided in the
table. The number of separate organisation from which the sample N is drawn
is given by C.
The date of publication of the table is shown.
When collecting data for a job, data are gathered on
salaries paid to separate individuals. The resulting statistics
give a reliable indication of the spread of salaries for the job.
We do not gather data on the basis of the average salary paid to
a number of employees in a particular job within organisations.
The results using this latter method tend to understate the
spread in salaries for the job because the underlying spread in
the salaries is masked by the averaging process. Our statistics
therefore represent a sampling of much larger groups of employees
to determine the pay characteristics of the larger groups.
