Remuneration Table: description of Percentiles (Quartiles):
The column headed 25 is the 25th percentile or First
quartile column of data. Twenty-five per cent of incumbents in the
sample received the amount shown in this column, or less, for the particular benefit.
Twenty-five per cent of positions in the sample have job evaluation points
less than or equal to the number shown in this column.
The column headed 50 is the 50th percentile or
Median column of data. Fifty per cent of incumbents in the
sample received the amount shown in this column, or less, for the particular benefit.
Fifty per cent of positions in the sample have job evaluation points
less than or equal to the number shown in this column.
The column headed 75 is the 75th percentile or
Third Quartile column of data. Seventy-five per cent of incumbents in the
sample received the amount shown in this column, or less, for the particular benefit.
Seventy-five per cent of positions in the sample have job evaluation points
less than or equal to the number shown in this column.
THE FIGURES IN THESE COLUMNS CANNOT BE ADDED TO
ARRIVE AT THE INTERMEDIATE TOTALS SHOWN. THE OBJECTIVE OF THESE QUARTILE
COLUMNS IS TO SHOW THE SPREAD OF DATA IN THE SAMPLE.
First quartile (25), Median (50), Third quartile (75).
Note however that the column headed Average does add vertically because averages
are determined on a different basis to percentiles.
